Meet Kat Nieh: The Soulfueled Enterpreneur
Q: Tell us a bit about your background.
: Let me show you an unusual path: Intended computer science when I got into college. I graduated with a legal studies degree but went to art school for graphic design instead. I freelanced and worked at design firms until I transitioned into an in-house design position at a gaming tech startup. Passionately led teams and built an internationally recognized brand until I got burned out and wondered whether “there was more to life than this”. Quit that job which became way too corporate to go “find myself”. Discovered the personal growth industry and coaching, and got two different coaching certifications. And now, I have my own businesses and I am an award-winning and Amazon best-selling author. I’ve been featured in the media and interviewed on tv. I might be catalyzing my 3rd pivot with my coaching niche. And through all this, I’ve discovered that I really enjoy helping, teaching, and sharing with people what I know.As you can see, my journey is far from being linear. I’ve done and experimented with a lot of different things in order to explore and uncover what I truly enjoy. I have followed the “should be doing this” paths until I was faced with frustration and burnout. Gratefully, it was those experiences that led me to my “living life on my terms” mission.
Q: If you had to choose an SEO keyword for your life, what would it be?
: Well, that was an unexpected question. I really had to think about this one, and I kept coming back to the word “curiosity”. I find that you can solve a lot of problems and challenges in life through having curiosity. It inspires understanding because you’re curious about other people’s perspectives and choices, instead of judgment or criticism. It encourages growth and continuous learning because you’re curious about how to make something work or improve upon it. It can also invoke a child-like sense of fun, joy, and adventure in an experience, too.
Q: What are your hobbies, passions, obsessions, or what excites or inspires you? What sets your soul on fire?
: I love that you used the phrase “what sets your soul on fire” as that’s from one of my favorite quotes, and this isn’t an easy question to answer! I find that my interests have evolved over time, so my answers could vary depending on “when” you’re talking about. But what lies underneath all those hobbies, passions, and obsessions is a drive of curiosity, a sense of adventure, creative problem solving, and an eagerness to learn and grow. Betterment and making a positive impact are what set my soul on fire! You’ll just have to get to know me personally to discover my other nerdy, spiritual, or unexpected interests. Hey, you might get sneak peeks of them in my Notes and content, too.
Q: What is the most courageous thing you’ve ever done?
: For sure, it was quitting my stable, high-paying corporate job and diverging from my career path to recover from burnout and “find myself” again. I purposely didn’t line up another job. I traveled the world. I did the things I said I’ve always wanted to do but “couldn’t” because of work or life situations. I went off into the deep end of discovering who I wanted to be and how to become her. I had no idea what I was doing or what I was getting myself into, but I turned that uncertainty into curiosity and excitement and did it anyways.Q: Why do you write on Substack?
: It honestly started off as an outlet for me to therapeutically capture the challenges, feels, and learnings of what I was going through on my entrepreneurial journey. It was helpful talking to my confidants and addressing it with my coaches. But when I kept hearing “ugh, me too” in these conversations, I wondered if there were more people out there who would benefit from what I’ve discovered for myself.I started “Soulfueled Entrepreneur” from an inspired action. I was battling internal concerns about this decision as it felt like a pivot or distraction from my dating niche, and I wasn’t sure how some of my raw, vulnerable thoughts would be received. But my heart and soul whispered to me, “Yes, Kat. Go for it.”
And I’m so glad I did! I was surprised and grateful for all the comments appreciating my vulnerability and saying exactly what was on their minds or what they were currently going through.
So I’m writing to help those who are thinking about becoming an entrepreneur and those who are currently frustrated with their entrepreneurial progress that… You are not alone! I want to help you shortcut your entrepreneurial success by learning from my experiences and insights. I’ll guide you to building the business and enjoying the lifestyle you’ve always wanted. More importantly, I want you to honor what feels right to you, go at your particular pace, and customize strategies to perfectly fit you. Let’s do all this Intentionally and proactively with dashes of fun while removing the hustle and burnout, too.
Q: What are your values as a writer/creator?
It’s important for me to be authentically myself, sharing what’s true for me, being thoughtful in my responses, and making a positive impact through what I create. The core sentiments that I share revolve around: (1) believing in what’s possible for you,
(2) doing what feels right to you regardless of what others do, say, think, or believe, and
(3) trusting your own inner wisdom.
I choose to be an encouraging voice and desire to create a safe, brave space for you to create the life you’ve always wanted.
Q: How do you connect with your readers?
: I enjoy connecting with my readers through my writing and comments, sharing my voiceovers, hosting “coffee chats” to address common challenges, and guiding workshops where they can learn something practical and actionable then collaboratively customize those strategies for themselves. I’m exploring Chat at the moment, and hope to connect more with my free and paid subs through that, too.Q: Why did you join the Connected Community project, and how do you find it so far?
: Well, I was intrigued by your “777 paid members across our community” challenge. I was super timid about turning on the paid features and came up with all these excuses for why “I don’t need to yet”. Plus, I didn’t even know back then what my paid offers would be for this seemingly new niche for me.Going through the challenge as a group got me to kick all my excuses to the curb and just get it all set up and done. I’m so glad I did because I got my first group of paid subscribers and I’m now developing this whole system and process on how to help people create a more Soulfueled business and life. It has been super encouraging and inspiring to build and grow as a collective group under your guidance.
I’m so grateful to be a part of your Connected Community project, Magdalena, and thank you so much for the opportunity to share my story here, too! It’s been so fun reflecting on and answering these questions.
If you enjoyed this share and resonate with the Soulfueled way of being, too, subscribe and reach out! I’d love to hear from you.
